Lenten meditations from Bishop Jacobs, Legatus’ International Chaplain . . . Dear Legatus members and your families, As we enter into this holy time of the Church year, Lent and the Easter Season, I would like to share the attached Home Prayer Service for recitation during the Weeks of Lent.  I offer these prayerful considerations to encourage the inclusion of family prayer in the Lenten Season.  May Our Crucified Lord draw you closer to Himself and may you come to know Him more intimately through these brief dialogues.

Legatus’ Board of Governors welcomed one new member at its Feb. 4 meeting just prior to the Annual Summit in Dana Point, Calif. The board also welcomed two previously elected members — Bishop Sam Jacobs and Tom Peterson — to their first board meeting.

Tim Busch [a member of Legatus’ Orange County Chapter] has an answer to the epidemic of closing Catholic schools. And it has nothing to do with vouchers. It couldn’t come at a more critical moment. Over the next few days, nearly 2.2 million students and their families will celebrate Catholic Schools Week. Though the Catholic school system remains America’s largest alternative to public education, the number of both schools and students is roughly half what they were at their peak in the mid-1960s. According to the National Catholic Education Association, the trend continued last year, with 162 Catholic schools consolidating or closing against only 31 new openings.
