One of the greatest apologists for the Catholic faith, St. Augustine of Hippo comes to the big screen in this impressive dramatic film. Interestingly, Restless Heart is the first feature-length movie on the life of this North African Doctor of the Church.
Augustine studied in Carthage, becoming an accomplished but dissolute orator. He was called to the imperial court in Milan to serve as an opponent to St. Ambrose, the bishop of Milan. His mother’s prayers and Ambrose’s witness ultimately led Augustine to the Catholic faith.
Restless Heart was originally shown as a two-part television miniseries in Italy. Recut for the American market, the film tells how Augustine sought fame and fortune without a moral compass — and how he came to see the light.
