Founder TOM MONAGHAN says the new program will honor the most active Legates . . .
Hopefully you are aware of our new awards and recognition program. We had a great response from those who saw our displays at the Summit in January. I am excited about all the opportunities available to us through this program.
As you know, the primary platform for recognizing individual members is through the new badge pins. These badge pins will affix to the new badge plates which are connected to the name badges we use at our monthly chapter events. The badge pins are classified into a few different categories.
The first type of badge pin recognizes members for a position they hold or have held. Specifically, we have two different pins for those who have served as members of the board of governors or as a chapter president. We will award these position pins retroactively to all those who have served in either of these capacities in the past.
Next, we have a set of badge pins to recognize members for their participation in certain Legatus functions — the Summit and pilgrimages (beginning this calendar year).
We also have badge pins to recognize members who have recruited new members (you receive an Ace pin for every five members you recruit for any chapter, not limited to a specific time period) and a badge pin for fulfilling one aspect of our mission (studying the faith, for example) by reading the Catechism from cover-to-cover. There is no limit to the number of members who can receive these.
The last group of badge pins is for those who receive specific awards. We have created many new awards. Log in at Legatus.org to see the “awards and recognition” section for the full list. Some awards are national and others will be awarded regionally. For many of these, we will have five regional awards and one national award in the same category.
Let me provide an example of how this will work. One of the new awards is the Annual Aces of the Year. This goes to the member in each region who recruits the most new members that year. And the member who recruits the most members will receive the national award. The other regional and national awards will work in the same way.
We will soon begin distributing badge plates to be adhered to the name badges for those who have earned position and/or participation pins. You will soon see them appearing in your chapters!
