Legatus: Booming like never before

After many years of chartering only one or two chapters per year, new Legatus chapters are now popping up all over the country! Over the last couple of years, we have experienced the fastest rate of growth in our 29-year history.

We have chartered 16 new chapters since 2014, and we are still going strong. This growth is very exciting and we are showing no signs of slowing down! I’ve always been a believer in celebrating one’s accomplishments, and these new chapters over the last two-plus years are quite an achievement. Opening new chapters is not easy.

In the Great Lakes Region, under the leadership of Nancy Haskell, we have chartered chapters in South Bend, DuPage County, Rockford and St. Charles. In the Central Region, under the leadership of Stephen Henley, we have chartered chapters in Lafayette, Oklahoma City, Austin and Lake Charles.

In the Southeast Region, under Brian Beckham’s leadership, we have chartered chapters in Atlanta, Savannah, Charlotte, and Washington D.C. In the Northeast Region, now under the leadership of John Knowles, we have opened chapters in Hartford and Harrisburg (see article). And in the West Region, where we recently hired Ty Soto, we have new chapters in Santa Barbara and Vancouver.

We also have chapters in formation in Kansas City, Madison and Fairfield County, which we expect to charter soon. The five regional directors are doing an outstanding job under John Hunt’s leadership. They are not only dynamic individuals, but also deeply committed to Legatus and its members.

I have a sense of urgency about Legatus and the importance of its growth because, as you have heard me say many times, I believe that as CEOs we not only have the resources but the talent and experience to help the most important movements in the Church — be it the pro-life movement, promoting vocations, defending marriage and the family, helping the needy, Catholic higher education, media — you name it.

Our mission is simply to become better Catholics and to help each other do the same. If we do this, the Holy Spirit will lead us as individuals in what we are meant to do. I really believe that Legatus is currently a major force in the Church in America and will be even more so in years to come! That is why I am so excited to see this exponential growth in the organization around the country.
