When you call Healthnetwork for a medical referral, we will find a hospital best suited to your medical need. We will connect you to a Healthnetwork liaison who will act as your medical concierge. They will assist with many aspects of your appointment, making certain that your needs are met with unmatched professionalism and attention.
Like most faithful Catholics, Kathleen Balestreri incorporates her faith into both her personal and professional life as director of Concierge Services for the University of California San Francisco Medical Center, a Healthnetwork GOLD hospital.
She has been at UCSF Medical Center for 33 years and has assisted Legatus Healthnetwork members for the past seven years.
Balestreri assists with patient referrals, hospital navigation and coordination for patients who support UCSF. She also handles international medical services, urgent referral services, cancer concierge services, the executive medical assessment program and the executive health practice program, which is a general medicine practice within the concierge service.
“I come from a family where giving back to your community was not only an expectation, but a commitment,” Balestreri says. “I have a true passion for connecting patients to the right service and the right provider. It gives me great joy to help someone who may be anxious or afraid due to a recent diagnosis or illness.”
Balestreri says there are many aspects of her position that she finds gratifying. “At the end of any given day, my staff and I have personally touched some 25 to 30 patients, and we helped to find them the right care at UCSF,” she adds.
“We make the referral as easy as possible for the patient,” Balestreri says. “At UCSF, we will request a private room and deliver a warm, fluffy blanket to them upon admission. We alert the team to their arrival and insure that all goes smoothly. We also visit daily to see how we might make their stay more comfortable.”
