Chapter History

In early 1996, Harry Fabick, CEO of a tractor manufacturing company, followed the suggestion of New Jersey Legate Bob Merritt and began efforts to form a Legatus chapter in St. Louis. Together with Monsignor Joseph Pins as chaplain and Charles Howard as chapter coordinator, they began contacting area Catholic CEOs. Within nine months the chapter was chartered.

Ascension Catholic Church

On December 17, 1996, 63 people shared in the chartering celebration at Ascension Chapel and Ascension Meeting Hall in Chesterfield, Missouri. Saint Louis Archbishop Justin Rigali was the main celebrant and homilist at the chartering Mass.  National chaplain Fr. George Rutler, Monsignor Pins, and Monsignor Richard Stika, then chancellor and now bishop of Knoxville, concelebrated with Archbishop Rigali.

Under the continued guidance of Monsignor Pins, support of Director Emeritus Harry Fabick, and three Archbishops, the St. Louis Chapter has continued to fulfill its mission to study, live, and spread the faith.

The Gospel of Life Prayer Breakfast takes place each spring and is a beautiful celebration of life. The St. Louis Chapter of Legatus and the Archdiocese coordinate this event with Archbishop Robert Carlson. The event has been taking place for 10 years and the next Prayer Breakfast will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at the Ritz Carlton in Clayton, MO.
