Founder & chairman Thomas Monaghan: Legatus is essential in tough economic times . . .
Yes, the economy is tough right now. We are in the midst of a recession and have been for some time, and it may last a lot longer. In times like these, most people are reassessing their priorities.
It’s fair to say that at times we all waste money in one way or another. And yes, in times like this everyone is looking for ways to cut costs. Yet, I believe the last thing to cut is Legatus. The spiritual nourishment that Legatus provides is very important all the time, but especially in tough times. Let me also encourage you to step back and think about Legatus’ benefits.
Legatus not only helps to nourish you spiritually (which is far and away the most important area we need to care for), but it can also help you with your business.
Who better to share your setbacks with or seek advice from than other members?
Most members have experienced some of the same difficulties you may be experiencing now — and virtually all have to find creative ways to deal with this down economy. That’s one reason Legatus only allows business leaders as members; by virtue of what you deal with on a daily basis, there is so much you have in common with fellow members.
Talking about receivables, budgeting or advertising would probably be boring to non-business professionals. Your chapter is full of invaluable business experiences! Let’s help each other weather this storm — not only during chapter meetings, but between meetings as well.
Tom Monaghan is Legatus’ founder and chairman. He is a member of Legatus’ Naples Chapter.
