Although in apparently good health, Patrick Burke was blindsided by a health issue. . .
Patrick Burke is a self-described all-around healthy individual. Recently, he was blind-sided by a medical issue that required immediate attention. One call to Legatus Healthnetwork put him on the road to recovery with a seat in first class.
“I was in a meeting when suddenly I became confused and disoriented,” said Burke, a member of Legatus’ Providence Chapter. “I couldn’t think; I couldn’t find words; I was experiencing what I can only describe as a cognitive blackout. I’m a healthy person with no family history or personal history of similar incidents. As my confusion began to dissipate, I was left with a debilitating headache and a sense of bewilderment about what had just happened.”
Burke called his primary care physician who sent him to the local emergency room. A CAT scan and blood tests confirmed he did not have a stroke. He was released from the hospital with instructions to follow up with his physician. He was also encouraged to seek a second opinion from a neurologist. Troubled by his experience, Burke discussed his health scare with fellow Legate Jim Gladney who encouraged him to call Healthnetwork.
“I had no expectations when I called Healthnetwork,” Burke explained. “What I found was world-class service which began with an immediate response to my situation. Within two days I had an appointment with a top neurological specialist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Healthnetwork coordinated all the details of my appointment.”
Burke’s experience at the hospital confirmed that he was in the right place. “Shortly after entering the hospital, I was greeted warmly by the Healthnetwork liaison who escorted me to my appointment,” he said. “I was seen by a leading neurologist, Louis R. Caplan, M.D., and his team. They proceeded to give me the most thorough medical history interview I had ever had.”
The team suspected a severe migraine caused his blackout, so they scheduled further testing. Burke said he appreciates all the personal touches: easy scheduling, appointment reminders, warm greeting at the hospital and all diagnostics completed quickly and efficiently.
“The best way to describe my experience with Healthnetwork is to imagine checking in to the Ritz Carlton,” he said. “The entire process was first class. Most importantly, they made me feel comfortable during an uncertain time. I would never have known which specialist to call and how long I may have waited if it wasn’t for Healthnetwork’s assistance.”
