DENVER The Denver Chapter commemorated its 20th anniversary on August 6 with 80 in attendence, beginning with a special outdoor Mass celebrated by Denver’s Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila at St. John Vianney Seminary. Members then enjoyed cocktails and a delicious meal. Highlights included: the Chapter awards; comments from John Saeman (read by Craig Saeman); the archbishop calling Chris Stefanick on FaceTime video during the award presentation to jokingly reprimand him for not attending with his fellow recipients; and the unexpected presentation to president Rob Attai of the “Golden COVID” trophy by Mike Sullivan for Rob’s hard work in getting the Chapter together through this tough time. The supply of margaritas (three different kinds) was gone, and the entire cupcake tower was consumed alarmingly fast during the after-party.
ATLANTA The Atlanta Chapter’s July 15 meeting was held as a virtual event, and featured guest speaker Stephen Auth, chief investment officer of Federated Global Equities, executive vice president of Federated Investors, and author of The Missionary of Wall Street. He shared his insights on the “Twelve Paths to the Heart of Missionary” which he has learned over the years from leading missions on the streets of New York City.
CHARLOTTE The Charlotte Chapter’s first in-person event since March took place August 6. With a red, white, and blue theme, members proudly “wore” the theme – like Dave Anderson (pictured) in his CHAPTER NEWS U.S. flag mask. Everyone enjoyed being together on the veranda at Ballantyne Country Club (Charlotte, NC). Guest speaker Dr. Paul J. Voss discussed “A Catholic Perspective on the Pandemic: Lessons from St. Thomas More.” His talk was Zoomed to members who could not attend.
ORANGE COAST On July 14, Orange Coast returned to The Pacific Club (in Newport Beach, CA) for an outdoor chapter event — marked by several special celebrations. First, the Chapter welcomed eight new Legates! Chaplain Fr. Patrick Moses and president Gary Crisp invested Pat & Rosemary Burcher, Mark & Joanne Hulme, Mark & Mary Prather, and Mark & Jody Zuvich. Next, a delayed but much-anticipated presentation of the 2019 Western Region Chaplain of the Year award was made to Father Patrick. Finally, to the delight of fellow Legates, Mario Bica, along with wife Janet, were able to attend.
NORTHEAST WISCONSIN Bill Raaths, founder and former president of the Northeast Wisconsin Chapter, took home the prize for “Most Patriotic” at the Chapter’s July 9 event, which was held at Butte des Morts Country Club in Appleton, WI. Guest speaker Fr. Adam Bradley, assistant vocations director for the diocese of Green Bay, spoke on the “Pre- Seminary Discipleship Year” – newly designed for men seeking to enter the diocesan priesthood, to prepare them for what lies ahead.
