In 1948, Aurora Marin arrives with her family at the convent where Sr. Josephine Bakhita, a Sudanese-born former slave, has just died. Aurora gathers her children around Bakhita’s picture and tells them the true story of her childhood nanny. As a slave, Bakhita was sold to Aurora’s father. She then came to Italy as Aurora’s nanny. Although she was mistreated by others, Bakhita embraced the Catholic faith. She was canonized on Oct. 1, 2000. Italian with English subtitles.
